“Yggdrasil?” North repeated, a confused expression on his face.
“Never heard of a land with that name before.”
Tarene bit her lip, nodding slightly. “Yggdrasil is the world tree… it is home to all the realms… I am just reminded of it by the massive tree in this land.”
“Exciting? No, not exciting, more like disappointing!”
“Oh I bet that’s not true… Maybe you just go on missions with the wrong people…”
“Yes that’s the name of this place and nice to meet you Tarene.” He replied, returning her grin.
“You as well… This land reminds me a bit of Yggdrasil…”
“Thanks. And yeah, pretty much the short way of talking about it!”
“So tell me-do you have any exciting stories from your missions?”
Noticing the strangers who wandered into the village he made his way towards them, resting his sword on his shoulder.
“Hello, name’s Nicholas St. North. What brings you to Santoff Claussen?”
“Hello Nicholas… Is that where this is?… Oh…” She grinned a wide grin with a slight shrug, “I’m Tarene.”
“It’s not necessarily a bad thing, juvy did whoop my ass into shape. And the fights were usually won by me, so I didn’t get too shitted up.” he shrugged, grinning. ”Being locked away and juvy sound about the same.”
“If it’s any consolation… I think you turned out just fine.” She laughed quietly, “Well, I guess they are about the same. Either way, it sucked.”
As many as he wanted? Two dozen? What had he done to deserve being served fresh, delicious baked goods by a beautiful woman? If it was a trap, well, what a way to go. “They’re heavenly; food of the gods,” he replied, still in awe and now reaching out to give her a hug of thanks. “Can I keep you?” he joked.
Tarene laughed, raising a brow when he finally released her from his hug. “I suppose you can… and I think it’s cheating to call them food of the gods considering I made them…” She shrugged a shoulder, smirking a bit. “I’m really glad you enjoy them though.”
